Practice Profile

Fiona is a specialist criminal advocate, instructed by the Crown and defence in Crown Courts throughout the country.  She is well experienced in conducting trials of serious criminal allegations, including rape, robbery, burglary, possession of firearm or offensive weapon, wounding, sexual assault of children and serious driving offences.  Fiona also appears in the Magistrates’ or Youth Courts in matters of particular gravity.

From 2014 – 2015, Fiona completed a secondment with F Chambers, a firm based in the Overseas British Territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands.  She is therefore familiar with practice in an international common law jurisdiction.  Her caseload included possession of a firearm with intent to rob, carnal knowledge of a girl under sixteen and bribery.  The latter related to Fiona’s work assisting in the defence of one of the former government ministers awaiting trial on charges of corruption, fraud and bribery.

Fiona has appeared alone in the Court of Appeal and recently had an order for forfeiture of her client’s boat quashed, following judicial review.

Fiona represents parents in private law children disputes and has particular experience of contested hearings concerning issues of contact, residence and parental responsibility. Additionally Fiona acts in injunctive proceedings arising from allegations of serious domestic violence and abuse.

During her secondment Fiona also expanded upon her interest in the practice of private family law, gaining significant experience in conducting divorce and adoption proceedings.

In public law proceedings Fiona acts for parents, children and family members in care and adoption proceedings and has experience dealing with cases involving allegations of sexual, physical and emotional abuse, domestic violence, severe neglect and the causation of non-accidental injuries to a child.

Fiona’s regulatory experience includes prosecutions brought by local authorities in respect of housing and benefit fraud, health and safety and trading standards.
