R v. S & ors [2010-C.C.C.]
Case involving charges of Murder and s.18 wounding with complex matters of Hearsay and Anonymity.
This case centred around a large scale disorder in a night club which gave rise to various charges of s.18 Wounding. Following this altercation one of the men alleged to have been involved was said to have then fatally stabbed another in connection with what had occurred that evening. The case was complicated by issues of witness anonymity and applications by the Crown to rely upon multiple hearsay evidence. The Crown ultimately conceded a submission of No Case several weeks into the trial and the defendant was acquitted.
