Claire Mainwaring has developed a busy practice prosecuting and defending in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court and Youth Court.
Claire has represented clients in a wide range of cases including serious violent offences, fraud and dishonesty, domestic abuse and drugs offences. She also has experience in quasi-criminal matters including cases involving stalking protection orders and probation breach matters.
Claire has a particular interest in representing children, young people and vulnerable adult defendants.
Prior to pupillage, Claire obtained an integrated master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford. She later completed the GDL, obtaining a Distinction, and the Bar Practice Course with an Outstanding grade. After her studies, Claire worked full-time on the National Domestic Abuse Helpline. She also regularly volunteered for the Schools’ Consent Project, educating secondary school students on the law surrounding sexual assault, and the Intervene Project, providing free legal assistance to prisoners.
