Mark Heywood KC and Ben Holt are instructed in the prosecution of Nathan Gill, former leader of UKIP, later Reform UK, in Wales on eight charges of bribery, and a linked conspiracy charge, from his time as a Member of the European Parliament before the UK left the EU in 2020. He agreed to receive money on multiple occasions from those connected to the opposition in Ukraine, with links to the leadership of the Russian Federation, at a time when the country was fostering closer ties to the EU.

Some of the complexities include overseas evidence and enquiries, EU and other foreign law, international cooperation and questions of European parliamentary process and immunity.

On Friday 26 September 2025 Mr Gill pleaded guilty to all eight substantive counts at the Old Bailey. Gill was sentenced to a total custodial term of ten years and six months.

Instructed by CPS, CTD.
