Sarah Forshaw KC acted for the first of two professional men charged with a historic gang rape from their university days. On the first day of trial, the judge was finally persuaded to permit defence counsel to apply search terms manually to the complainant’s mobile handset at court. That exercise produced material that led to the prosecution offering no evidence. Following acquittal, the defence successfully applied for costs against the prosecution (s.19 Prosecution of Offences Act 1985).
