5KBW - Leading Barristers' Chambers
Background

For more than 50 years, 5KBW has been a leading set in homicide cases. Members regularly appear for both the prosecution and defence in the most serious and high-profile homicide cases, in the UK and internationally. That wealth of experience has earned chambers a first-class reputation amongst its peers and in the legal directories. Our members, and particularly our KCs, are among the most highly regarded practitioners in this field.

Members of chambers include the former First Senior Treasury Counsel, current Senior and Junior Treasury Counsel and Treasury Counsel Monitorees. Treasury Counsel are a team of specialist advocates who prosecute many of the most serious and complex cases in the country, and advise and appear on behalf of the Law Officers, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and other government departments. They are based in ‘the Room” at the Central Criminal Court.

Our Silks and Juniors, have acted in many of the most complex and challenging homicide cases of recent times including the prosecution of the serial killer Levi Bellfield; the seminal Supreme Court decision Gnango [2011 UKSC 59]; Martyn Blake, the police officer accused of shooting Chris Kaba; Harry Gilbertson, the teenager who stabbed a 12 year old schoolgirl to death in Liverpool after a row over a Snapchat video; Marcus Monzo, the Hainault sword attacker who killed a 14 year old boy and three attempted murders; the murder of Flamur Beqiri, who was the brother of Real Housewives of Cheshire star Miss Beqiri and was shot by a team of Swedish gangland assassins; the Essex lorry deaths tragedy, where 39 Vietnamese migrants were found dead in a refrigerated container in Essex; PC Andrew Harper who was dragged to death by a car driven by three young men escaping from their theft of a quad bike.

Our experience means that members are proficient in dealing with expert evidence in the following areas: Forensic Pathology and Neuropathology, Firearms, DNA and other biological trace evidence, textile and fibre analysis, soil analysis, forensic palynology and entomology, Mobile Telephone, Cell Site and all other communication and imagery technological evidence.
