A man has been sentenced to a hybrid order of 9 years and 4 months, which will see him detained at a mental health facility and if deemed fit he will serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.

The man repeatedly and persistently encouraged a vulnerable woman he met online to kill herself.

He is the first person to be charged with offences under both the Online Safety Act 2023 and the Suicide Act 1961.
