Ben Holt prosecuted Isa Giga for preparing to commit acts of terrorism. Giga had travelled out to Syria in 2015. Having left, he informed his family members that he intended to ‘fight for jihad’ on behalf of Jaysh Al Fath; a militant group affiliated to Al Qaida and opposed to the Assad regime. He returned to the UK in 2024 and was arrested.

Following a four-week trial before the Recorder of London, Giga was convicted by the jury. He will be sentenced in October.

Ben was led by Joel Smith KC of Furnival Chambers and instructed by CPS Counter Terrorism.
