Anthony Orchard KC led Ben Holt in the prosecution of Michelle Neill. The defendant ultimately pleaded guilty to the manslaughter by gross negligence of her sister. During a prolonged period of time, the defendant, who had become the deceased’s carer, failed to provide any assistance or support for her. When found by medical services she was suffering from a number of injuries and sores which she could not survive.
The Common Serjeant of London in sentencing Ms Neill described the facts of the case as ‘highly unusual and exceptionally distressing’.
Anthony and Ben were instructed by the CPS Homicide Unit.
