Dickon Reid and Sam Willis were instructed to prosecute eight defendants accused of supplying kilo blocks of Class A drugs to dealers in Greater London and Birmingham for onward supply. In total, around 80kg of cocaine and heroin was trafficked around the country.
The ten-week trial of four of the defendants involved the presentation of observation evidence from surveillance officers, CCTV, cell site analysis, drug expert evidence, and extracts from phone downloads. The jury considered and ultimately rejected defences of modern slavery from two of the defendants, and found that the other two defendants were members of the conspiracy as alleged. The other four defendants had pleaded guilty at an earlier stage in the proceedings.
