A case where the defendant was charged with three offences of wounding with intent. It was alleged that the defendant was illegally occupying a property and that when the letting agent brought round a new prospective tenant, the defendant had launched an attack, armed with a knife, causing a total of 18 wounds to the three victims. However, the defence was able to establish that the defendant was in fact lawfully resident in the property and that the lettings company had been attempting to force him out of the property through intimidation. In addition, it could be shown that the three men had entered his property as trespassers and stolen items belonging to him. Ultimately, the jury accepted his defence of self-defence and protection of property.
